The position of a sub-licensee of intellectual property rights (IP) is perilous when the head licence is terminated. The sub-licensee sits at the end of the licence chain. His IP rights are contractual only, and the head licensee can grant him no better rights than the head licensee holds; so if the head licence is terminated and the head licensee loses all of his IP rights then the sub-licence must also come to an end.
