Collaboration is the word of the moment in both the public and private sector the challenge for many is the perceived conflict between operating with a collaborative ethos whilst meeting the requirements of contracting policies, regulatory and legislative rules. The recent launch by the International Standards Organisation of a process to elevate BS 11000, the world's first standard for collaborative relationships, to become ISO 11000 raised question in with some countries as to whether collaborative working could work alongside more traditional contracts. David Hawkins Operations director for the Institute for Collaborative Working reflects on their experiences since the publication of BS 11000.
