ATE - IP law for newbies

Long-time IACCM member D. C. Toedt (his last name is pronounced "Tate") will discuss the basics of what a contract professional needs to know about patent, trademark, and copyright law, focusing especially on licensing; ownership; and the use of IP assets as collateral.

A member of the Texas and California bars, Mr. Toedt is a private practitioner in Houston; he was formerly vice president and general counsel of a publicly-traded software company (which as outside counsel he had helped the founders to start), until its successful "exit"; before that he was a partner and member of the management committee at a 150-lawyer IP boutique law firm.

He is currently the co-chair of the Commercial Transactions Committee of the State Bar of California's Business Law Section. Mr. Toedt blogs at Technology Law Notes; he is also the author of, among other things, a short e-book, "Signing a Business Contract? A Quick Checklist for Greater Peace of Mind."
