ATE - Ecosystem collaboration and SRM lessons learnt from the Boeing Dreamliner case study.

In developing and building the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing embarked on a substantial outsourcing program, with some reports claiming that less than 50% of the plane was developed and manufactured directly by Boeing, rather risk was distributed across approximately 50 partner organisations. Initially the service entry date for the Dreamliner was heavily delayed and now due to recent faults in the battery modules, Dreamliners have been grounded in the USA, Europe and elsewhere.  This Ask The Expert call will provide background to the development program, consider whether the outsourcing model adopted by Boeing is responsible for the current Dreamliner troubles and what organisations involved in partnerships and alliances can learn from this example.Our expertAnoop Nathwani, Founder and MD of Consortio Consulting Ltd.Anoop is the Founder and MD of Consortio Consulting Ltd, a consulting organisation that helps companies build business based on collaborative relationships.Anoop is a highly entrepreneurial and business centric Senior Alliances/Partnerships and SRM professional, with over 15 years of professional experience in this area, all of which has been in the Mobile/Converged Communications sector having worked for Vodafone, Hutchison and Nokia to name a few.  He has extensive experience in developing and driving ground breaking strategic business development initiatives through the establishment & development of global strategic alliances to include Mobile Operators, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), Ecosystem players, Strategic Suppliers and other major blue chip organisations, all with the intent of creating, capturing and maximising mutual value for all.As part of his background, Anoop has had responsibility for the defining and executing supply side Alliance activities for Nokia's largest global Indirect Suppliers for all categories, incl IT. This included chairing the global Supplier Management Community and driving the 'Centre of Excellence' for SRM activities, and managing two of Nokia's largest global IT Suppliers. He has led the transformation in the area of delivering value from suppliers through partnering.  Prior to this, he worked in Nokia's Corporate Strategic Alliances and Partnerships area and defined and executed Nokia's global Alliances and Partnering strategies where he managed some of Nokia's global strategic Alliance Partners. In addition he also ran Nokia's Global Alliance 'Centre of Excellence'.  Anoop is also a UK Board member of the Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP), the only worldwide professional body for Strategic Alliance professionals.Martin Chalkley, Co-Developer of the IACCM SRM e-Learning Program, ConsultandomiMartin has 15 years experience in the IT industry. He started his career specialising in IT Asset Management and Business Demand Management for a global engineering company in the oil refinery.Martin has a wide range of experience - Supplier Relationship Management, IT Sourcing Strategy, IT Asset & Configuration Management and Commercial Management in the engineering and public sectors. His main driver is reducing cost in capital/operating expenditure and ensuring organisations achieve value for money spent.Martin holds a Masters in Research degree in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, ITIL Configuration Practitioner certificate and the CPD Award in Front Line Leadership from Warwick Business School.
