Communication is key, know what you want to convey to the other party, be precise about your communication, and verbally dexterous. These qualities will take us long way in this career.

What do you enjoy most about your contracting career?
I enjoy the fact that it requires collaboration with multiple global stakeholders as well as an understanding of multiple disciplines, to ensure the operationalization of contracts resulting in added value. I meet new people, build new relationships and continuously develop myself and others.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in contracting?
Having a legal background is beneficial, but what becomes more important over time through experience is fully understanding organisational operations and how to deliver value. In my case, recruiting, leading and developing people has become a key role. As has being able to articulate the value to Contract Management in practical terms to enable the growth of the organization.

How did you first get started in contracting?
Working in Project Management and liaising with our Contract Manager on various contract changes, I grew to understand the necessities and developed the accuracy needed to advance my role.

What do you enjoy most about your contracting career?
I really enjoy the variety in Contract Management. You get to see what's happening at an account level and you have the power to influence the overall quality and efficiency of the account.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in contracting?
‘Manage Up’ - demonstrate your full capability and pay attention to business practices from management’s perspective to greater understand the what, why and when needed to make decisions.
