CBAM Is Here: What EU and UK Carbon Border Rules Mean for Trade and Contracts
April 09, 2026
How CBAM is reshaping pricing, supply chains and contract risk
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is no longer a future policy discussion. EU CBAM is already influencing global trade flows, pricing strategies, supply chains, and contractual risk allocation, while the UK prepares to introduce its own CBAM framework beginning in January 2027.
In this World Commerce & Contracting webinar, we will explore the practical, commercial, and contractual implications of both EU and UK CBAM for organizations trading internationally. Joined by Mitch Perks, Deputy Director at the British Chambers of Commerce, the session will examine how EU CBAM is currently affecting exporters to the EU, how emissions data and calculations are moving through supply chains, and what businesses should understand now about the developing UK CBAM regime.
The discussion will focus on real-world commercial considerations, including carbon cost pass-through, emissions data transparency, compliance risk, contract negotiations, and preparation for the UK’s upcoming framework. The goal is to help legal, commercial, and contract management professionals understand CBAM not simply as regulation, but as an evolving trade and business reality requiring a practical response.
Key Learning Outcomes
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Explain the differences and interaction between EU CBAM already in force and the emerging UK CBAM framework
