We have already made significant progress through the establishment of the Government Commercial Organisation (GCO), our single employer of senior commercial talent across government. This role will sit within the GCO, but based in our CCS commercial team delivering departmental objectives.

Job description

There are 2 positions available, one role will be a permanent opportunity and one will initially be a 12 month contract. With the 12 month contract role, there is likely to be the chance to convert this role into a permanent position at a later date or to move into an alternative permanent role within the wider government commercial function

These roles will involve procurement and contract management in the Facilities Management sector, there will be the need to procure both new and replacement services contracts for large portfolios of FM services and properties. Strong procurement, contract management and stakeholder engagement skills are a must, and the successful candidates will be drawing on their own expert commercial knowledge in their dealings with both commercial and non-commercial stakeholders.

This roles will suit candidates with relevant commercial experience in a number of categories, however detailed below are the expected categories / areas of focus for each role, so we'd be particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in the highlighted categories:-

Permanent role:

  • Extensive experience in the delivery development and implementation of strategic high value contracts for the supply of public or private sector access to local, regional and national fresh, frozen, ambient food and drinks and catering services.
  • Experience of working in the waste sector either from a private or government sector and can demonstrate building and leading on a category strategy for waste; including clinical, recycling and sector specific.
  • 12 month role:
  • The Workplace team is looking for an individual to lead on the Estate Management and fitout Categories as well as support the Commercial Controls for FM Categories for approx 1 year.
  • Experience in the delivery, development and implementation of strategic high value contracts ideally with Estate services.

Responsibilities

  • Input and support development of market leading Workplace category strategies, across Central Government (CG) and the Wider Public Sector (WPS);
  • Lead on the engagement with stakeholders to deliver fit for purpose and world class procurement solutions through demonstrating added value through a deep understanding of customer requirements in the area of responsibility;
  • Strategically manage Tier 1 suppliers ,working with Tier 1 strategic customers and other category experts across the public and private sector;
  • Develop capability within the teams, drive new technology and innovation solutions into the Facilities Management & Workplace category;
  • Develop effective category communication strategies to ensure that all key stakeholders are effectively communicated with and updated in a timely manner.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Commercial Focus - In-depth Procurement & contract management knowledge that has delivered outstanding value for money and strong Commercial outcomes.
  • Supplier Relationship Management - The ability to partner with suppliers to ensure world class delivery of contractual services; being able to partner with suppliers to help improve performance.
  • Coaching Manager - Strong leadership ability which has developed high performing remote teams and has been used to manage projects.
  • Market Insight - A clear demonstration of staying abreast of the latest market trends and the ability to use this to resolve commercial issues.
  • Building Relationships - Experience in developing relationships with a wide range of internal & external stakeholders.
  • Resilient - The ability to work under pressure, and deliver multiple projects within agreed timescales.
