We have already made significant progress through the establishment of the Government Commercial Organisation (GCO), our single employer of senior commercial talent across government. This role will sit within the GCO, but based in our MOJ commercial team delivering departmental objectives.

Job description

You will manage a team of commercial managers delivering procurement, supplier and contract management activities to reduce commercial risk and exposure and increase value for money. Working within a fast-paced environment, you will bring excellent communication and organisational skills to ensure contracts are working effectively to meet business needs and stakeholder relationships are managed appropriately.

You will be an integral part of the team and be responsible for providing sound commercial advice and guidance to all levels of the organisation and you will be able to put all your skills and ability to the test on a daily basis.
 

Responsibilities


  • Lead on technology category and/or professional services category, managing the full lifecycle of large projects and contracts;

  • Working closely with stakeholders to establish effective, working relationships as well developing and managing the pipeline of procurements for the category;

  • Develop and deliver the category strategy for your area of responsibility, ensuring that savings and operational objectives are met;

  • Ensure savings targets are identified, tracked and delivered; creating initiatives for your team to deliver increasing efficiencies whilst maintaining high performance and managing risk;

  • Ensuring proper controls and documentation are in place;

  • Providing advice on best route to market and sharing best practices with the team, ensuring timely market engagement to meet business needs;

  • Planning and developing procurement and exit strategies to meet business needs;

  • Liaising with colleagues across government to share knowledge and best practice;

  • Acting as a Commercial Subject Matter Expert within Program Teams;

  • Support, challenge and guide senior stakeholders (internal and external); providing high quality support to Ministers, Commercial senior leadership, and other MoJ stakeholders;

  • Ensure the team is creating positive supplier relationships, developing markets, encouraging innovation, “value add” initiatives, a strong customer service ethic, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Procurement Process - Significant procurement and commercial experience;
  • Decisive - Evidence of delivering and leading on commercial category strategies and delivering end to end category plans particularly across digital and technology or professional services;
  • Builds Relationships - You will work closely with stakeholders to establish effective working relationships that align best to suppliers and supply markets ability to deliver value;
  • Commercial Focus - Delivery of contract management in a complex commercial environment, developing category plans and commercial outcomes and managing the exit of strategic contracts;
  • Market Insight - Relevant experience in the information technology or professional service space, demonstrating broad understanding of the markets for hardware, software and associated services;
  • Risk Mindset - Continuously assessing risk from tendering through contract award and contract management with an emphasis on digital and technology.
