Leonardo are looking for an ambitious Commercial Manager to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment for the Surveillance and Protection Technologies (S&PT) sector within its Electronic Warfare (EW) division. Reporting directly to the Vice President Commercial, EW the role interfaces with a wide portfolio of customers within UK, US and Worldwide markets, as part of multi-functional integrated project teams (IPTs). The S&PT sector forms a major growth area for the EW division with aggressive orders targets over the short to medium term, which require the development of innovative commercial solutions as well as management of some high value and strategically important contracts.
The successful candidate will have a successful track record in commercial management in the Aerospace and Defence Sector, have experience working with complex and high value contracts and demonstrate the ability to lead and manage a successful team.

- Provide end to end commercial support with full accountability for commercial strategy and direction
- Apply best practice contract management tools and techniques to ensure contractual obligations are managed and adhered to throughout life of the contract.
- Apply best practice commercial management to support the development of opportunities and delivery of proposals that balance customer requirements and commercial risk.
- Advise programme managers on all contractual aspects in order to deliver programmes cost effective manner
- Develop innovative partnering and collaboration strategies and agreements in support of new business opportunities
- Manage a commercial team, including professional development, training, resource allocation and prioritisation.
- Develop and maintain effective and strong customer relationships both internally and externally
- Lead commercial negotiations with customers and partners capturing the outcomes in appropriate contracts and agreements
- Ensure corporate governance is adhered to; in particular managing the commercial approval process for bids and agreements and obtaining business approvals in line with delegated authority.
- Provide report inputs and communicate within the commercial team and wider organisation, including attending various management reviews
What we are looking for
Successful candidate must hold:
- A degree or equivalent ideally in Business or Law
- Sound knowledge of defence contracting mechanisms and terms and conditions.
- Experience in a commercial /contract management capacity, in the defence or aerospace industry.
- Proven experience of negotiating, managing and changing large value and complex contracts
- People management and professional development experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to build and maintain relationships with customers and partners
- Dynamic and tenacious with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and persuade others.
- Ability to promote a culture of best practice and sharing of knowledge within the function and across the wider business
- Ability to obtain positive outcomes, with a strong desire to win business and adopt innovative approaches to winning new business.
It is desirable to have:
- A professional qualification such as IACCM
- Demonstrated experience with Lifecycle Management and business processes
- Understanding of Export Control and Compliance including UK Export and ITAR.
