Contract Manager - Core Responsibilities
Salary: £50K to £60K
The following core activities apply to all Contract Manager roles for aligned accounts:
Management and Governance of Contractual Mechanisms
- Create and update of the Contract Guide and relevant commercial control documentation (e.g. Contract Calendar; Change Control Log, W@R Register etc); with the assistance of the assigned Legal Adviser as appropriate
- Obligations Management: extraction, allocation and tracking of key customer and supplier obligations required to be fulfilled
- Ensure Charging, Relief and Change Control and other key contract and commercial mechanisms are operated in accordance with the contract and the Change Policy
- Draft Complex CCNs and other ancillary contract documentation such as updated conformed contracts and Financial Models as required by the terms of the Contract
- Assurance of “in-life” transactions such as reviewing pricing variations, statements of work, work orders, indexation and milestone payments etc and ensuring that these are reviewed and signed off in accordance with the Delegated Authority Matrix for the Contract
- Act as the principle contact for sales and operational teams on contract issues and single point of contact for escalation to legal advisers
- Ensure suitable handover mechanisms and materials are in place to move the contract into standard BAU operating model within timescales agreed by the business and then act as point of contact for adhoc contract queries that may arise from the service delivery team.
Provision of Contractual & Commercial Expertise:
- Act as a trusted adviser to sales and operational teams in order to assist in delivering contractual obligations and to assist in identifying commercial and contractual solutions to in life issues
- Interface with Customers and internal departments to understand Contract Change / and additional service requirements and negotiate certain contract terms
- Liaison with and escalation to relevant Group area for policy queries and act as a subject matter expert in managing the contract in accordance with appropriate Company Policies e.g. Commercial Policy
- Implementation of best practice regarding Deal Risk: i.e. pro-active monitoring of key risks identified at bid stage and ensuring risks are identified, tracked and reviewed on a regular basis by the Account Team
- Monitor the commercial and contractual implications of performance and financial issues, monitor and manage variances from key assumptions and ensure the maintenance of a suitable audit trail of key client and internal interactions and decision points
- Participate in internal and external account reviews and support the development of Service Management KPI improvement plans to ensure effective contract performance
- Support the pre-sales, service delivery and account manager teams in contract negotiations through risk analysis, drafting and agreeing contract schedules, producing controlled versions of contracts where required or delivering “contract walk” to show delta and inform negotiation strategy.
Contract Lessons Learned:
- Provide accurate feedback with assigned Legal Adviser to pre-sales functions regarding deviation from modelled solutions and issues in contract operation
- Track actual risk / opportunity and provide audit trail for variance from baseline contract performance in accordance with Commercial Policy
- Measure impact of W@R and Goodwill on UK profitability to inform and improve commercial governance
- Continuously improve the contracting environment - processes and awareness - within Computacenter, and contribute to the provision of innovative and flexible solutions to contract/commercial issues.
Skills, Knowledge and Leadership Behaviours
- Proven experience managing large and complex contracts
- Good standard of drafting capability
- Ability to work within senior teams and advise and escalate as appropriate
- Ability to understand and manage complex risks and issues
- Good communication skills and ability to operate across different levels of management and senior management
- Understanding of P&L, Balance Sheet and associated internal finance systems
- Excellent Project Management and planning skills on major contract negotiation
- Experience of dispute resolution

- Work closely and collaboratively with the assigned legal adviser.
Relationships
- Key internal relationships are with Service Delivery functions, Account Teams, Lawyers, Commercial Finance, Heads of Department and Group Functions (e.g HR)
- Key external relationships are with Client and its external advisors.
Entry Criteria
- Relevant legal/financial skills (formal qualification is not required) and/or relevant commercial/ contractual experience
- Experience of influencing at a senior level within a medium to large scale organisation
- Excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to work in a sales led culture and escalate where appropriate
- Ability to create followership by character and expertise such that a “trusted adviser” role is created within the relevant account by this individual
- Demonstrable ability to work effectively under pressure in a highly changeable and fast moving environment
- Demonstrate excellent relationship management and development skills along with excellent written and verbal skills.
